Broadening the ecological mindset

Over the past three decades, Harvard Forest Summer Research Program in Ecology (HF-SRPE) has been at forefront of expanding ecological tent for minoritized or otherwise marginalized students. By broadening definition ecology to include fields such as data science, software engineering, and remote sensing, we attract a broader range students, including those who may not prioritize field experiences feel unsafe working rural urban sites. We also work towards more resilient society which students can safely, part by building teams mentors. Teams collaborate on projects that require diversity approaches create opportunities mentors alike support one another share leadership. Finally, HF-SRPE promotes an expanded view what it means become ecologist. value diverse career paths ecologists all parts society, diversify face ecology, bring different perspectives together ensure innovations environmental problem solving our planet.
